Largest Chinese gay social app removed, child porn detected


Blued, the hottest app in China for matching gay people, was banned for a week. According to the official Weibo site of Blued, the app will be closed for registration for a week in Jan 2019. Meanwhile, a taskforce will be responsible for the inspection and screening of the content in the app. Blued is currently the largest app in China with the more than 40 million registered users, with approximately 30 % of them being overseas users. It ranks the top among competitor apps in the south-east Asian regions. 

The app Blued was launched and maintained by Beijing Lancheng Xiongdi Media Co. Ltd., a broadcast media company. The official Weibo post from the app operators claimed to be updating the algorithm of the app to deter those under the age of 18 from registering. There will also be a comprehensive cleansing of text, images and other types of content contain underage-related materials.

The app publishers were alleged of causing AIDS transmission by luring the underage into social networking. The app operators responded by stating that 46 community NGOs have involved in the provision of AIDS prevention advice in the interface of the app.
